Welcome to the Spring Edition of our quarterly newsletter! We’re excited to share some updates with you: Dr. Kymberley Coleiro has welcomed her baby and will be temporarily covered by Dr. Rachel Lee, ensuring continued excellent care. Joining our team in May, we warmly welcome Leah, our new nurse dedicated to enhancing your pets’ well-being. In this edition, we explore a compelling case study on ear infections and skin allergies, offering insights into diagnosis, treatment options, and practical tips for managing these common issues. As always, we’re here to address any questions you may have and look forward to serving you and your furry companions with the utmost care.

We are thrilled to announce that Dr. Kymberley Coleiro has welcomed the newest addition to her family, and during her well-deserved time off, we are fortunate to have Dr. Rachel Lee stepping in to provide continuity of care. Dr. Rachel joins us with a wealth of experience from her work in emergency hospitals, focusing in critical care. Her expertise ensures that your pets will continue to receive the highest standard of veterinary attention during this period. We extend our warmest congratulations to Dr. Kymberley and eagerly anticipate her return.

We are also delighted to introduce Leah, our newest addition to the nursing team who joined us in May. Leah started working as a general practice nurse in 2018 while completing her Certificate IV in Veterinary Nursing with Box Hill TAFE. In 2022 Leah left GP nursing to work in shelter medicine, caring for stray and surrendered animals. She is passionate about preventative care and has a special interest in anaesthesia. Outside of work Leah is kept busy looking after her son and enjoys exploring the outdoors and new places together. Please join us in welcoming Leah to our clinic family, and feel free to say hello next time you visit—we know she looks forward to meeting you and your pets!

Meet Luna, a 7-year-old Maltese x Poodle grappling with recurrent ear infections. There are usually several contributing factors, such as floppy and hairy ears which trap moisture, creating a conducive environment for infections. A lot of these dogs also have underlying skin allergy (think itchy skin!), which is exacerbated during the spring and summer months. To shed light on Coco’s condition, we have included a photo of an ear cytology, a diagnostic tool used during ear swabs to identify the specific pathogens involved. This allows us to formulate an effective treatment plan. It is crucial to address any underlying skin allergies and thoroughly treat ear infections to minimise recurrences. Our team emphasises the importance of regular ear cleaning as a preventive measure to maintain a healthy ear environment. As always, we are here to provide guidance and support in managing your pet’s health challenges effectively.

As we wrap up our spring newsletter, we celebrate fresh starts and ongoing dedication to your pets’ health. Dr. Kymberley’s new baby means temporary care from Dr. Rachel, ensuring continuity in our service. Please join us in welcoming Nurse Leah to our team! Finally, our case study on ear infections and skin allergies highlights our proactive approach to pet health.
